South Carolina is a very interesting state because of it’s many discoveries, and all the famous people who were born there. For example Jessie Jackson who ran for president in 1984-1988. He was later elected as an acting senator in Washington D.C. There was also the Gremke sisters who worked to end slavery and gain rights for women. The sisters were also among the first women in the country to give public speeches. South Carolina was the 8th state to be adopted, this was on May 23,1778. The state seal was adopted in 1776, and the state flag was adapted in 1861. Today South Carolina population is 3,486,703 ranking it 24th in the Nation. It is ranked 40th in size, about 31,113 square miles in size. The state has many industries like forestry, chemical, textiles, lumber, and food products. Livestock and livestock products are among the largest industries. For example, cattle, milk, hog, and eggs. Some of the minerals found in South Carolina are stone, clay, sand, and gravel.
